TRANSPORTS OF UNDELIGHT!
Everything happens at once! Did the most truly awful magic booking on Saturday and to add insult to injury I had no car so had to lug a suitcase onto the underground train and later onto a bus too. The journey there was uneventful unless you count getting on the wrong platform for the first train out; getting back up a double flight of stairs to head to the right platform and then finding that the train had left so had to clamber back down again.
The journey back was a different matter. The route had involved a ten minute walk down hill to get there - so come back was going to mean walking uphill! No problem, there was a bus stop just along from the hall... except the buses that came lumbering up the road failed to stop for the four of us standing in freezing, but thankfully not snowy, conditions. We were then informed by a passerby that there had been an 'incident' on the Northern line and that the stations were closed! How was I going to get home?
Well, finally a bus came along with a little room and I asked if it was going to Kennington as someone had told me that there were chances of trains on another line. No, the bus wasn't going there, it was stopping at Clapham Common.. but I met a lovely girl with a dog, a restorer of harps, who so very kindly escorted me from the relevant bus stop to Clapham Common Station which, thankfully, was open after all (the others up to there had been closed because we could see them from the bus!).
Thank you wonderful restorer of harps - your company was excellent and when I left you I managed only a minute's wait before I was able to drop into a seat on the train and sit there till the end of the line!
However... lugging said suitcase damaged my weak back rather badly and I was in agony working at the restaurant on Sunday. I could not have driven my car if I'd wanted to - and I wouldn't have wanted to when I saw the snowfall yesterday! My car looked very cute last year when it received a covering of the white fluffy stuff - don't know how it fared this time as it was away at the Body Shop being preened and painted.

What a journey! Flanders and Swann should, indeed, have written a song about it!
